It’s summer 2019, and the creation never stops.
I’m going to show you a few of the pieces I’ve created over the past month or so. All these pieces are currently hanging at Cafe Louise at the Indian Hills Country Club, and will be until the end of August. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, August 4, from 2 to 4, and I hope to see you there! All the pieces in the show are available for sale. I’m showing you my most recent four, but in fact there are 26 pieces in the show.
This is Sandy Neck II, 14 x 18, a piece that incorporates photo transfer, quilting, and beading. If you like it, it’s available for $300.
The photo that inspired this piece was taken at First Encounter Beach in Eastham, Massachusetts.
For this piece, I printed the original, above, as well as its flipped image, on fabric. Then I sewed the two symmetrical halves together, layered the piece with quilt batting, and went ahead and had fun sewing on hundreds of beads.
Two years ago, I made another piece called Sandy Neck, similar but not identical to this year’s. That year, that piece was juried into the Lyme Art Association’s annual New England Landscape exhibit, and someone bought it even before the opening reception for that show.
This is the original Sandy Neck, 23 x 29, which is no longer available because someone bought it.
So I decided it must be a popular motif, and now I’ve made a second one.
In other news, I’ve created three 12 x 12 felted landscapes in the past few weeks. Two of them show the luscious sunset view from the Eastham cottage that Joe and I rent every year in September.
This is Colors of Dusk, 12 x 12, felted and embroidered, $125. Creating this piece, and the next, was like going back to the top of this dune overlooking Cape Cod Bay. A trip of the imagination.
This is Summer Evening, Looking Westward, 12 x 12, felted and embroidered, $125
This is Spring Woods, 12 x 12, $125. Every spring, I’m struck by the sight of the dark trunks, especially in the rain, contrasting with the sharp green of the newly-opened leaves.
